Character art style mood board:
This mood board is for character styles, I said in my brief I want to use a style that is a mix of calarts and Japanese animation. This includes somewhat grounded body proportions compared to the calarts body proportions and maintains strong shape language, exaggerated features and large eyes. The Japanese animation style has made the calarts style a lot more grounded and when combined it creates a nice balance and style. This is the style I want to use for my project.
Cyberpunk clothing:
A lot of the cyber punk clothing was really sleek and just black and others were bright and out there. While it isn’t cyberpunk media I thought of the hunger games, in the capitol the citizens will either wear bright, big outfits with crazy hair and make-up, and the higher ups wear much sleeker, simpler and darker clothing. This made me think of the lawless concepts in the cyberpunk theme due to the values of the capitol the films. Something I need to consider is night fashion people would wear while out clubbing so the character designs fit the night club theme.
Cyberpunk shoes:
This mood board is for cyberpunk shoes, all of the shoes are boots that feature dark or bright patterns, buckles, platform heels and obscure designs. Many of the shoes are unpractical and are just used for fashion which is something lot of people do at night clubs anyway as they are there for fun. Most of the shoes have high heels or platformers which can have decoration on them like buckles, threading and abstract heels. It gives me a large range of concepts to work with.
Cyberpunk hair:
Hair is one of the brightest elements of cyberpunk, big, coloured hair is used a lot in cyberpunk character design to break up darker clothing design that is so common in cyberpunk. The hair is often either styled beyond what we think we can do or is just chopped off and shaved, the hair design from “the hunger games” really interests me, while it isn’t cyberpunk media the hair is really exaggerated and colourful and the style could be adapted to cyberpunk.
Cyberpunk make-up:
Cyberpunk make-up can get crazy with how it can be done which is what makes it so interesting and exciting to work with. Eye make-up seems to be the main focus on where you can get the most creative with make-up, you can use strong shapes to mark out areas of attention and colour along with adding glitter and crazy lashes. Stickers are often used around the eye to act as lashes or decoration here along with glitter highlights. For character design I could go crazy with the makeup which really interests me.
Primary make-up research:
For primary research I managed to convince two of my friends to let me do their makeup. Sadly it didn’t go as well as I hoped and I learnt I am better at doing my own makeup rather than others. My friends squirmed every now and then as they aren’t used to makeup but they bared with me. We tried glitter, colourful brows, shapes, crazy brows and lashes. It gave me a better understanding of crazy makeup as I was able to see how it sits on the face and what you need to do to achieve looks.
Chairs, sofas and tables for night clubs:
In a night club seating is required for guests to sit down, drink and enjoy entertainment. Cyberpunk night clubs would have this as well, the tables and seating will need to be altered to fit the futuristic theme, this can include sleek design, futuristic lighting along with glass and metallic panels. After looking at the designs here on the board I feel a little more confident with how I can do futuristic furniture for the environment.
Alcohol islands:
One of the main parts of the nightclub is the bar area, this is surrounded by stalls and there is often a large cabinet behind filled with alcohol and surrounded by a counter and glasses. The islands are often lit up so that people in the nightclub can see where the alcohol area is, the counters are often sleek design wise so it would be easy for me to translate the counter into a futuristic environment. The counter would need to have a range of futuristic drinks behind as well.
Nightclubs:
To understand general nightclub layout, contents and feelings I made a general nightclub mood board to understand this. A lot of nightclubs seem to have different platforms and levels for dancing and seating so this is something I’ll need to take into consideration for the floor plan. The board gives an overview on where everything can go in general with tables, railing, poles, chairs and lights (On ceilings, walls, floor etc.)
Lighting for nightclubs:
To me lighting is incredibly important in my environment as it sets the mood of club, while it is in a limited colour palette the brightness and specific colours mean everything in the scene. Lights can be used to frame certain elements in the scene like the bar or light shows could even be used for entertainment. Pipes on the ceiling and walls can be used as lighting along with strobe lights and hologram lighting.
Vaporwave:
Vaporwave is the colour aesthetic I want to use for the project, the colours consist of blues, pinks, purples, oranges and turquoise. As well as this vaporwave uses clean shading and colours usually so I will need to consider this when shading.
